Piaget Exceptional Pieces - Diamond Watches
At Piaget, fine watchmaking and fine jewellery co-exist in a dazzling duo performance. Piaget unleashed its creative talents to reveal watches of unprecedented sophistication in Geneva in April 2007.

Four of the watches presented at the fair are a reminder that Piaget remains true to its motto of always doing better than necessary. These exceptional pieces together represent more than 5,500 hours of work, which, with almost 260 carats of gemstones, adds up to an estimated value of seven million Swiss francs.

The Girdle of A Loose Diamond: What Is It & What Does It Look Like?

Did you ever wonder what the words "diamond girdle" means, when you see it as a designation on the certificate or grading report of a loose diamond?

Well, the girdle is exactly what it implies (;-), the outer most circumference of the diamond.
Some diamond girdles are "polished", which is where the diamond cutter actually creates facets on the girdle.

Others, are left in their natural, or un-polished state, which appears grayish and matte in finish.

The best analogy I could give you, would be to describe the difference between polishing the edges of the lenses on your eye-glasses (rimless glasses for example..) or leaving them un-polished.

There is no effect on the beauty or shine of the diamond at all. A polished or un-polished girdle is purely subjective and personal.

Here is a 40X magnified picture of a polished girdle on a loose diamond.
As an added bonus, you can also clearly view one of the internal inclusions (blemishes) of the diamond at this level of magnification.

Smithsonian Showcases Tiffany Diamond

The Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History is currently showcasing one of the world’s largest yellow diamonds, on loan from Tiffany & Co. The diamond will be on display from Wednesday of this week until September 23, joining the Hope Diamond and other famous gems. The 82-facet, cushion cut diamond weighs in at 128.54 carats. On top of the stone sits a bird known as the “Bird on a Rock,” which is made up of white and yellow diamonds with a ruby eye. It is currently the largest diamond on display in the U.S. according to Jeffrey E. Post, the museum’s gem curator. For a visual of this diamond’s size, consider this: the Hope Diamond weighs 45.5 carats, which is two-and-one-half times less than the prized yellow diamond. The diamond is on display with other gems as part of a celebration of the Tiffany foundation’s endowment to the museum. This endowment will allow the museum to purchase gems to fill its collection.Audrey Hepburn once wore the stone in a promotion for “Breakfast at Tiffany’s.” The stone was only worn one time other than that, by a Rhode Island socialite.
